Today AppLinkers hit ten thousand users. Two communities, Madrid and Santiago.
We launched the platform two months ago, but I’ve never really told the story of how it started.
I came across @linkers.madrid through a funny little story that isn’t worth getting into. One day, back in the spring of 2024, I saw on their stories that the tech people working with them at the time had tried to move the community over to a site of their own, on the side, and pull a fast one on them.
I replied to give them a hand, helped them sort out a couple of things, and that was that.
Just the one time. Then everyone went back to their own thing.
Months later they wrote to me again. The first thing they asked was whether I was studying computer engineering. I told them no, but that I liked tinkering. I happened to be doing a web development bootcamp around then, so it wasn’t entirely a lie. They asked if I’d be able to build something similar to what they had before, and I said sure, when do we start. The truth is at that moment I couldn’t, not even close. But somehow it worked out.
In September 2024 we started with a few early tools. A disaster. From the outside they looked fine, inside everything was held together with duct tape. Month by month we polished them, until in February 2026 we left them behind and replaced them with a single integrated platform. And here we are — with that, and hopefully more to come.
